The Italian was booed by the crowd during his appearance in a MotoGP gala video and, shortly afterwards, the champion put an end to it: “Everyone must be respected.”
Their relationship cooled after 2014, and even though ten years have passed since SepaPg’s decision, respect has always been maintained. At least, on Marc Marquez’s side. Last Sunday, during the MotoGP Gala, a ceremony celebrating the success of a new season and its new champions, the event was booed by the public as soon as Valetopio Rossi appeared on the screen. It was only a video, but Valetopio’s face let out its resentment towards Italy.
The shouts and howls were so loud that they were perfectly audible on television. It is a deplorable scene which follows an incident marked by similar incidents in Italy… but reversed. At Mugello, the spectators, massed in the stands, booed Marc Marquez, for the second consecutive appearance, at each of his jumps on the podium. Perhaps less on Sunday, perhaps because on Saturday, during the prize-giving ceremony for the spirit race, David Tardozzi, director of the official Ducati team, addressed the crowd, demanding respect for the rider.
“He is red!” ” he shouted to the fans, demanding that they shut up and undress their jerseys, reminding them that the Spaniard is now the best of their kind and, precisely, the perfect example of this powerful hat trick for the use of Borgo Paígale.
It is true that there was less intellect at Misa… until the arrival of Valepti Rossi. The two men had crossed paths in the paddock during the previous Graпd Prix, without exchanging a glance, but revived old stories which, some where the other, were still not healed. During this Grand Prix of Milan, the situation erupted when Markus fell in the final spirit; the cameras captured Italy’s smile at the crash over the giants of the circuit. Mark’s reaction? To win on Sunday and celebrate the victory like Leo Messi had done at the Bernabéu.
He had taken off his red racing suit and shown it to the crowd to clearly demonstrate that he was in control. Some minor apprehensions during this same season which marks the tenth anniversary of his accident at Sepa. But last Sunday, it was different. A few days after admitting he wouldn’t greet Rossi if they crossed paths, Marquez gave a lesson to all the fans who booed his rival during the awards ceremony in Valencia. Shortly after this tense moment, the world champion went on stage to receive the award for best overtake, thanked the fans for their support throughout the weekend, and asked for the same respect for all riders, whether they were of Rossi or of any other driver, whatever their category.
“I apologize for all the support, from the previous model, but especially here in Spain. It’s a great honor to receive this prize, but I had some very good overtakes, very good drivers. For me, Fermíp Aldegüer’s overtake (on Acosta, another overtake performed) was one of the most difficult.” Thank you for voting for me and for believing in me.
What I would like to say is that you have to respect everyone, that’s the most important thing because you can’t beat so much on the track,” said the champion from the stage, where he received a huge ovation and warm applause from the public.
