The document, described by Whoopi as “verified test results,” appeared to change everything. Witnesses say his expression shifted in seconds — confidence draining, eyes widening — before he abruptly snapped, shouting, “Turn it off right now! Don’t show that!” Gasps rippled through the studio as cameras kept rolling and the tension became impossible to ignore. Golberg conceded that her Italian is “not perfect,” but she and the team have “worked it out.” The show is entirely spoken in Italian, so it remains unclear if her character will also speak fluently, or speak English.

“Ciao! See you on TV!” she said.

Goldberg has long frequented Italy, even developing a friendship with Pope Francis before his death, and regularly vacationed there during time off from “The View.”

A representative for “The View” did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s inquiry of whether filming “Un Posto Al Sole” will conflict with filming for the ABC talk show.

Whoopi Goldberg is adding a surprising new chapter to her already storied career — this time, in Italian.

The longtime View host and Oscar-winning actress was notably absent from the ABC talk show this week while traveling to Italy, where she accepted an award honoring her memoir Bits and Pieces: My Mother, My Brother, and Me. But the trip turned into more than a literary celebration.

While overseas, Goldberg revealed that she is officially joining the cast of the Italian soap opera Un Posto Al Sole.

In a Friday Instagram post shared by Fremantle Italia, Goldberg announced that she will appear in a recurring role on the long-running series, which is set to celebrate its 30th anniversary next year. Her appearances are expected to span “a few episodes” airing in 2026.

The show, one of Italy’s most beloved television staples, airs on Rai 3 and is performed entirely in Italian.

“They know it’s a crazy idea. I know it’s a crazy idea,” Goldberg said in the video. “But what a wonderful thing to do. I’m looking forward to it. I’m excited.”

Goldberg candidly acknowledged that her Italian is “not perfect,” but emphasized that she and the production team have “worked it out.” While it remains unclear whether her character will speak fluent Italian or a mix of Italian and English, the actress appeared confident and enthusiastic about the challenge.

She ended her message playfully with, “Ciao! See you on TV!”

The role feels like a natural extension of Goldberg’s long-standing affection for Italy. Over the years, she has frequently vacationed there and even developed a friendship with Pope Francis prior to his death.

Her deep personal connection to the country has often been referenced on The View, making this professional step all the more fitting.

As of now, a representative for The View has not confirmed whether Goldberg’s filming schedule will overlap with production of the ABC talk show. Still, fans on both sides of the Atlantic are already buzzing, eager to see how the Hollywood icon brings her unmistakable presence to Italian television.
